Syncing Android Contacts with PC

Hi
Thought Id just chime in here. I hope this tidbit of advice is in the right area and Im not stepping on any toes if this has already been dealt with before or Im just repeating said advice. My bro came to be about syncing his HTC Desire with his PC in the event he may lose his phone and he'll have somewhere to store his contacts emails mesasages etc because we all know the heartache of losing a phone but also the extended anguish of losing all numbers/address/email etc. With the most updated version of suppport software HTC Sync, no matter how much tinkering, we couldnt get the phones' contacts and calendar to sync with the PC. This included googling for a few hours and implementing a few methods which included syncing with MS Outlook via hotmail and gmail and applying a few bits of software and saving certain files and copying over from one to the other....which all unfortunately proved fruitless. Until I came across a small app called MyPhoneExplorer. You download the app and software onto the computer. Connect the phone to the computer via the usb cable, select the sync option on the connection screen on the phone and highlight the debugging option and wait for the software on the computer to recognise the phone....and within seconds the software was doing everything my bro was looking the HTC Sync software to do. The only reason Im posting this is because I know how frustrating for us it was to find a simple answer to such a simple dilemma and from what Ive read and seen of the different answers to this problem although would have helped other people did not help us. Hopefully this helps someone else as well. Better looking at it, then looking for it!!
Good luck.

Well there must be some way to use the bluetooth to connect and syn your pc with that too, You need to explore further options buddy :).

If your bro synched his contacts to Google, it would all appear in his GMail contacts when you open the browser and head to the GMail site. Ask him to go to his PC, open his GMail, see the left column and click on Contacts. By the way, if you edit here, it would also sync back to the phone, including pictures.

If he buys a new Android phone and logs in with his GMail account, all those contacts will sync right back in.

Emails on the phone, unless you change the settings to delete at the server if downloaded, would only mirror what you have in your GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and your POP3 email. Thus, they are only duplicates.

To ensure that cloud backup by Google is working on your phone:

Go to Settings > Privacy > Back Up my Data.
