Syncing apps but not gmail

Hi

I've just got my wife a nexus 7 for her birthday and she's new to android whilst I've been a desire user for a couple of years.

In order to maintain the facade that its her new toy I want her to have a Google login and password, etc. However, I already have loads of apps so I don't see why I should buy them all again but I don't want my email on her tablet.

Is there a way to sync Google apps but leave gmail totally turned off for that device? I know I can simply turn off gmail sync but won't that still upload my gmail at this point in time to the tablet?

Thanks
Andy

Andy,

Not sure if you can Freeze GMail - it doesn't look as though you can on my ICS'd GS3.

However you could try doing what you suggested but also changing the Label settings for the Inbox to bet 'Sync: None'. That would hopefully stop any messages being received even if the app was launched.

You can still get mail even if you don't sync. I have all sync turned off and am using aquamail. If I click on the gmail addy, I get what's currently in the inbox.

You might want to password protect your gmail account just to keep it out of the way.

Tell your wife your email is only there to give her the apps, and that it is locked on her tablet.
