syncing contacts (not your typical problem)

so here's my dilemma

i have an Epic 4G through Sprint, yesterday the screen decided to stop working.....i took it to the Sprint store, the gentleman promptly ordered me a new one

now, it's good that i'll have a replacement for no cost to me, but it's bad since they won't be able to use the transfer machine and therefore i won't have any of my contacts

i'm wondering if there's maybe a way to get into my GMail account that's synced with my phone and push the contacts to there (i know how to check and see if it's already synced and it's not)

alternatively, since i do have the physical keyboard, is there any way that someone could walk me through the key strokes of getting into the 'Settings' menu by using the physical keyboard and then turning on the account sync?

any help with this is greatly appreciated

If you were already syncing with gmail and hadn't disabled sync of contacts, they should reappear on the new phone.
