Bit of a noob question but I'm new to android.
How does syncing work. For example, I'm at home connected to my wifi. Screen is of and so wifi not connected, will my device six using WIFI, i.e use the wifi connection when a sleep or will it use mobile data ?

LG-G2 / Android 4.2.2

Just to make sure go to menu>settings>wireless & networks>WiFi and then tap menu>advanced and make sure "Keep WiFi on during sleep" is set to always and WiFi optimization is checked for better battery life.

In settings I've got it set to keep wifi on during sleep > only when plugged in.
I've set it like this to help with battery life.
If I set it to stay on all the time, I asked this would kill the battery?
So as I've got the settings it would user data?
So if I turn data of it won't sync and download new mail etc

If you've got some settings to sync while on WiFi only and WiFi shuts off when it goes to sleep, then yes, it won't sync until you wake up. If you have apps that sync regardless, then you will use mobile data.

Keeping WiFi on all the time really hasn't been a problem for me with battery life with my N4, which is pretty similar to the G2 so I would try keeping it on all the time and see if you can see a difference.

Yeah i think when you keep wifi on, it only gets used (uses battery) when an app asks it to. Same with GPS and bluetooth
