Syncing with Kies

I am completely new to Android phones, and I have some problems syncing with Kies even if I have been using PCs for many years. I do not give my contacts to Google or anyone else. I do not sync with any social network. For many years I have always had all my contacts on MS Outlook and that is what I always sync them with, either directly or using CSV files. I almost always make changes on Outlook and sync from there OR delete all contacts on the phone and import them either just that ot syncing, depends. I bought this phone less than a week ago.

  • (Without Kies) The first time I introduces contacts on the phone was a CSV file. Then, after making some changes on the contacts I used Contacts >> Menu >> Import/Export >> Import from USB (without using Kies). After this I found all contacts duplicated on the phone.
  • Then, using Kies, I tried to delete a few duplicates. They were removed from Kies, but not from the phone. As this did not seem to work and I had too many duplicates to remove it was easier to remove them all and import them again. So I selected all contacts in Kies and clicked on delete icon. They all disappeared from Kies, but not from the phone! I even rebooted the phone every time I tried, but no way. I deleted them on the phone. Menu >> Delete >> Select all.
  • I try to sync with Outlook 2010 (Apply to device only), but nothing happens. The Sync button becomes blocked for less about 10s or 20s and that is all. Not even prepares, as I read on other threads.

My questions are:
  1. I can delete all contacts on the phone, but how can I do that or just a few in Kies?
  2. Why syncing (Apply to device only) is not working and how to make it work?
  3. I have never tried to sync or import from different sources. So why have the contacts got duplicated.

Thank you for any help trying to understand how it works.
I hope I have posted on the right forum.

I'ne not used Kies (I have an HTC ... :-) ) but have heard lots of stories about pronlems such as this. I use the HTC equivalent at first and that, too, was awful. Gave you no control at all, just did what it wanted to do!

Like you I also don't sync with Google but sync between Outlook 2010 and my phone - I use MyPhoneExplorer - client on the desktop and app on the phone. It can use USB, wifi or BT for sync'ing. Personally I use wifi.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your reply. I see you're syncing the same way as I do. I've found your app. I'll get it, try it and come back only if it does not solve my problem.

I am not sure about your CSV files, but what you should have done was run Kies, plug in your phone and set it to import your contacts from Outlook into the phone. I've done that and it worked awesome.
