Help syncing with your computer (mac)

Hi everyone, I've recently traded in my Balckberry for a Motorola DEFY. (Recently, as in a day ago!) Loving it so far, but I do have a question.

With my BB, I used a (free) program called Desktop Manager that synced my phone with my contacts, calendar, (selected) photos, and (selected) music from my Mac.

Is there anything similar to this for Android?

I've come across a program called SyncMate, but it only lets you sync your address book and iCal, unless you want to pay $40 and upgrade to the "expert" version.

Would a possible solution be using SyncMate for my contacts and calendar, and another program for music and pictures?

hmmm, iSync does not seem to have support for the defy, in fact the list of supported devices seem to have quite a lot of old phones and not many newer ones!!

With my Gmail account...do you know if I can set preferences to only sync a specified group? Perhaps I can export the address book from my computer, then import it as a new group into the contacts on my gmail? (I'm assuming I could do the same with my iCal? Export then import to google?)

well I couldn't just import a specific group from gmail, it sucked in the whole she-bang, as well as all facebook contacts. I can filter though, and make a 'favorites' list. Had trouble exporting/importing my iCal as well, so I suppose I'll just manually enter all my important dates, etc., into the google calendar.
