Help System Download Won't Install

[DawsonNeufeld]

I have an unrooted 2013 nexus 7 running 5.1.1. I keep getting the notification "system update downloaded." When I select to install the update it begins the installation process. About a third of the way into the installation the little Android bot on the screen 'dies' with the word "error" underneath.

I then reboot the device and the notification is gone. I check the device info and it says the software is up to date.

Within the next twelve hours the same "system update downloaded" notification appears.

The update is always 10.3 MB.

I've been through this process 3 or 4 times already but have given up.

How can I get rid of this annoying problem?

You say it's unrooted, but has it ever been rooted or attempted to root it? Because that can modify/damage things in system, which would cause an incremental update to fail.

I wish I had an answer. I bought this device used and I'm not sure what it's been through.
It was wiped in the standard way when i recieved it.
Assuming it has been tampered with, is there anything I can try? Or is it just hopeless?

In that case we don't actually know its current status for sure, so I think it's definitely worth re-flashing the whole firmware fresh. Should find full details of what you might need to do here..

It's definitely not hopeless, Nexus 7 is a well supported device, you just might have to get your geek on a little bit.

Heck you could flash Android Marshmallow if you like as well
