Root System takin too much memory???

So I have 555mb left on my triumph, this seemed so much lower than a few weeks ago, so I used diskusage and found that I have 229mb of apps, then i have 333mb of system, why is it takin up so much space??, I dont remember it taking that much space when I got the phone, Im also using the Punkrom, so anyone else with this rom... do you also have this much system usage on your triumph, or what could it be?? And I know its not that I installed lots of apps since last time I checked cuz I havent.

There are alot of somewhat log files called alog an like plog or pmlogs that are created by the system in /data/ and alot of these are like 8mb a piece and there will be all kinds of them in there. I haven't tried deleteing them because I dont know what they do, but that is what takes up alot of space.

If you can get into a terminal, try typing "df" or "df -h". That should give you a basic breakdown of what storage is being used where. I know there are also apps for that, but most of them cost money.

Otherwise, /system is very different from /data. A program like 1Tap Cleaner can get rid of messy caches, and also inform you which apps are using the most /data storage.

If you're knowledgable enough, you can sometimes change the way apps store their data. For example, K9 Mail has a per-account setting that lets you store messages on the SD card instead of internal memory. Cha-ching!

If all else fails, the app Link2SD lets you link apps, data, or everything to the SD card. It requires both rooting and a second partition on your SD card, so it's certainly not for the faint of heart. But, provided your SD card never leaves its phone, the solution is virtually foolproof and unnoticeable.

Yeah well none of the cache cleaners will touch these a_logs and stuff. These are motorola's doings. And they are created by the system but stored in /data. Ah Apps2sd on this phone is useless, if you think 500mb free is not enough your crazy lol!!!

That was more of an Optimus thing, lol.

Stupid a_logs... last I checked you had a way to disable those... or it should be relatively easy via build.prop?

The reason it has logs files is for more advance ROM developers can fix problems, the log files write down incedent reports when system does something rather important or when something happens.

so basically the triumph would make a great dev phone! as it makes its own crash log... (take that nexus one)
