Does anyone know if you can activate a T-Mobile Moto X with the sim that comes with the phone (from Motorola) on the $30 plan?

Thanks!

You should be able to put any T-Mobile SIM into any T-Mobile phone and use it. (Assuming it's the right size SIM or you have an adapter to make it fit.) The plan you'll be on will be the plan that the SIM is on.

I don't have an answer to your question, but if you can't use that SIM, you can also get one for $1.05 shipped. Last I saw, they were going for free, even...

Delivery was very fast, too.

If I recall correctly, T-Mobile does use different sims for postpaid plans and prepaid plans. Therefore in order to use the 30 dollar plan, you would need a prepaid Nano sim.

You need to buy a separate SIM from TMO, they will send it to you in the mail and you will need to use that for Prepaid.

I think mine cost like $1-2 even though it said $10 on their site.

FYI also, GoogleVoice does not work as voicemail on prepaid plans, some compatibility thing, not sure why.

Interesting, I'm sort of curious about this.

I suppose since I'm using VoIP to make calls on this plan, I'm able to receive voicemail through GV, including full integration and playback through the native dialer. I can't alter specific settings at the OS level, but it's controlled fine at the app (GV) level.

Thanks for the help - I ordered the sim - but you are right about the $10...I hope they bill me for less.

Thanks! I guess it is better to be safe than sorry. I imagine if I used the sim in that comes with the phone and try to activate it, it would not be a new activation if I later ordered a prepaid sim.

It will work OK if someone calls your GV number, but it wont replace the TMO voicemail if you use a regular TMO number (I use both).

Something I read said that their prepaid backend system was unable to forward the calls correctly. There is some event that needs to trigger GV to pick up like.... "if no one answers after X rings, take action X" that the TMO prepaid system cant do.

OK, I got the phone last Friday and the SIM from TMO on Monday. I did not try the SIM that came with the phone. All went well - I was on the $30 plan as of Tuesday.

Thanks again for the help.

The t-mobile SIM which comes with the Moto X phone will work with the $30 prepaid plan. What you need, however, is a prepaid activation code so that you can activate it online. These prepaid activation codes don't come with the phone. I bought one on eBay for $1.50 and it worked. Did the entire activation online. Just do an eBay search for T-Mobile Prepaid Activation Code and you can find people selling them.
