Root [T-Mobile] Black Camera Screen!

Raphius

Lurker
Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, it seemed the best fit.

My Tmobile Galaxy s4 is unrooted.

Whenever I open up the camera the screen is blank. The control icons for the camera load up but the camera itself is black. The phone performs very sluggishly or freezes and I have to tap the home button several times to pull it out of it. Sometimes, if by chance it seems, If I click the "flip camera" button to switch it to the front facing camera, the front facing camera will actually work, but is still somewhat sluggish. Flipping it back to the normal camera causes the black screen again.

I ~believe~ the error first happened (not 100% on the timing) when I had a failed update to KitKat (must have dropped connection or something while installing). I then finished installing the update in hopes that would solve it. Nope.

I then went back and started deleting recent apps and other camera apps to see if that fixed it. Nope.

I then restarted the phone in safe mode to see if that fixed the camera... NOPE.

I then factory reset the phone. When the phone first came back on the camera DID indeed work. It was currently and automatically updating all of my samsung apps (that come preinstalled on the phone). Needless to say, I checked my phone again in 30 minutes when all the "initial updating" that automatically happens was done and my camera was in the same situation.

I can only imagine that it is some type of compatibility issue with the new kitkat update and probably has something to do with the new way it makes apps not/use the SD card.

Anyhow, I'm at a loss since there really wasn't much I could do to stop the phone from doing it's auto updates... has anyone else faced this issue? Is there a way I can help pinpoint it down? Am I stuck until hopefully whatever the culprit app/problem is gets updated and fixed to make it compatible?

It's extremely frustrating as I'm a frequent camera user and it really negates the experience with my phone that I can't use it... any input is appreciated!

I'd bring it to T-Mobile, explain that the update failed and ask if they could reflash the update for you. If that doesn't work, ask them to put an OS back on it that works the way it did before their update broke your phone. (They're responsible if they broke it - even if it was by sending you an update.)

Try finding a BestBuy store with a Samsung center inside the store. some of them have software that will reload the android update. Keep in mind not ever BestBuy has a samsung center located on the store and not every samsung center has the software. I have yet to find a T-Mobile store that has the software to do a reload.

I have the same problem right now except after the update the camera worked well. I updated a long time ago. If I hit the camera hard on the table a couple time it will work. Bit once I close the camera and go back on its black again. Any ideas? Not rootwd either
