T-Mobile prepaid sim

I have ordered a free T-Mobile prepaid sim a few days ago.
Received confirmation email that the SIM was shipped.
How long does it normally take to arrive in the mail ?

EDIT: Mine was on backorder so it took longer

Takes a while like 1 week so if you really need it bad just go to the store

I ordered mine Wednesday night and is arriving today. Next day delivery was available for free so I figured why not.

I've ordered several. Usually takes about 3 business days. I guess it depends on where you are.

There is UPS tracking ID they provided but when I try to get the tracking status from UPS the following message is received:
"The number you entered is not a valid tracking number (e.g. typical format is 1Z9999999999999999). Review the number provided or contact the sender to verify the number."
I wonder why that is.
Anyway, once I finally get the SIM card, what is the next step? How is it activated ?

Are you sure its UPS? They usually ship USPS. (postal service)

That's weird because all ups tracking numbers start with 1Z.

Don't worry it takes less than a week for most. It took 4 days for me.

Once I receive the SIM card, what is the procedure to activate a pre-paid plan ? Can you activate without actually putting the sim inside a phone or are they sending some code via text message to get the plan going ?

They give you a set of inductions. You will need to insert the card into the phone as part of the procedure.
