I bought a t-999 from ebay for super cheap because its stuck in boot loop. Any ideas how I might attempt to fix this? I do believe it is fully stock. If I can get it into download mode, can someone point me in the right direction to obtaining the appropriate files. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance

To get into Download mode since it boot loops, pull the battery and put it back. Hold the Volume Down, Home and Power button at the same time till it vibrates and let go of the buttons. Use the Volume button when instructed to get into Download mode.

You may want to try a factory reset first though. Almost the same, pull battery and put it back. Hold the Volume Up, Home and Power Button till it vibrates. Once in Recovery use the volume up or down to move to Factory Reset and then the Power button would be the Enter. Hope it works out for you.

Boot loops are caused by people flashing ROMs who don't know what they're doing and neglect to wipe. GT is spot on. Simple factory reset and you should have a hell of a deal if you got it that cheap.

Cool I should receive it today. So I'll give it a shot. I got the phone for $240

Can you post a link to the instructions

Just do a Google search for "unbrick Galaxy s3", here's a link that popped up over on the XDA forum:

If the one you purchased really is in a boot loop, you should still be able to get it into download or recovery mode. If not, there are instructions in the above link above on how to possibly force it into download mode...

So my wife got the phone in the mail and I gave her instructions on how to get into download mode. As soon as it got into download mode it automatically restarts itself. Also the phone had been on the charger for about two hours now and it still shows 0%. Obviously it needs a battery right? But is the battery causing the phone to restart right when it gets to download mode? Any ideas? Thank you all for the knowledge.

Hopefully someone with more direct experience with this type of thing on the S3 will weigh in again, but it sounds like the battery may be discharged to the point that the phone can't charge it. Sometimes you can get an external charger and get it to hold a charge. You may want to consider getting a replacement battery & charger (often sold together), charge the battery completely & see if it will boot. It could just be a discharged or cooked battery.

Let's see what some others have to say....

Its all good to go booted up with touch clockworkmod. Using avatar rom right now. Also the battery seems to be working well also. Shuts off randomly though weird. Any ideas? Thanks for all the help guys!!!

Now the only problem is random reboots. Any rom. Anytime it wants

I was wondering, is there any way to reflash the bootloader? The random reboots accur at start up, during start up, while booted, in recovery, in download mode, etc. any ideas?

Try bringing the stock ROM on it and remove all root. Clean installed and factory reset. Then reroot and everything should be up and working.

Sorry so late but I got it working great. I brought it to a little Vietnamese repair shop and paid him $40 to replace the power button switch. No more rebooting. Yeah

i have a galaxy s3 under t-mobile with the same situation... kinda
i fac reset the phone and i want to assume that the OS corrupted itself. when i boot up the phone, i get stuck on a T-Mobile boot screen and it wont kick through...
