T-Mobile updates Relay to Jelly Bean!

I just discovered the operating system update yesterday. I downloaded and installed it in less than 1/2 hour. So far everything is running smoothly. This appears to be a secret update-only available until May 30th, so you better hurry. I downloaded the update using WiFi. Its about 400mb.

Apparently this doesn't work if your device is rooted or has an already modded OS.

I have spoken with at least 4 t-mobile reps (I'm starting to lose track at this point) about my phone's wack behavior since I did the Jelly Bean upgrade.

The 1st rep I spoke with had encountered this before and knew it was an issue with the upgrade... they're apparently working on fixes for it. His advice was to factory reset the phone so that the phone would downgrade back to the original software... NOPE. Have factory reset this phone 3 times. Doesn't remove the upgrade. He said the Jelly Bean upgrade has been messing with people's call reception, among other things. A lot of other things on all different models and brands of phones on the T-Mobile network. So, please do some research before you install it, because I haven't seen any new updates to Jelly Bean come thru for the fixes they say they're working on.

Up until the upgrade my phone worked great. As soon as I installed the upgrade I got tons of error messages, unable to make calls and send texts, etc. Before I had no problem making calls or sending texts, no issues whatsoever.

Hey Gurl, I know it must seem like the errors correspond to the JB upgrade.
If that were the case, everyone who upgraded would have these problems too. Instead of recommending a hard reset, those knuckleheads should have done a step by step check of what else could be causing the conflict.

Is your phone rooted?
Maybe some of the apps don't play well with JB.
The upgrade seems to be affecting your radio. What other apps do you have on your Relay that uses the radio? Try removing those apps 1 by 1 and see if your calling and texting improves.

One other thing to try is reinstalling the upgrade. Maybe something got corrupted during the first upgrade.

Let us know how it works out for you.

Hey Joe,

Thanks for the info! Nope, my Relay isn't rooted. I've reset the phone a bunch of times to help with any problem apps that I might have downloaded, but still no es bueno on the MMS. I also have tons of issues sending regular texts and making calls as well, even when on Wi-Fi. I also have a Sidekick 4G and it has the exact same issues. I tried going back to the default APN settings as suggested by T-Mobile on their site under support topics, so we'll see if that helps. Haven't thought about re-installing the upgrade since I switched to Sidekick 4G pretty soon after I posted the 1st time, and started having the same issues, so I know it's not the Jellybean install not installing correctly (at least I think it isn't, heh).

Anyone have any other ideas? I've been online all over the web reading about T-Mobile customers being unable to send MMS, even with a strong 4G signal... what the what?!?!?
