I purchased a Samsung HDMI adapter for my Galaxy Tab 4 so I could connect to my Philips television ( not a smart tv.) When I connected I got a message that the output format was not compatible with my tv, and I should Galaxy S4 phone and it worked perfectly. Can someone tell me what settings might need to be changed and what they should be changed to? I also tried to connect to Sony Bravia tv (older moded) and received the same message. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I'm aware of retailers advertising that the Tab 4 supports MHL to HDMI and I'm aware of Samsung service reps claiming that it works the same as the Tab 3.
None of the 2014 Tab 4 models actually support the feature at all.

The only way one could use a Tab 4 now to a TV is to screen cast through a Chromecast stick or other similar device. I wouldn't recommend doing it with the 7 inch. Perhaps with the 10 inch, which has the Adreno GPU vs the 7's Marvell GPU.
