tab going off during usage or at idle erratically

Install a battery monitoring app, one that displays a graph of battery voltage. Next time it goes off, look at the graph. If it drops almost instantly to zero when the tab went off, it's a defective battery. (It's a manufacturing defect, called a dendrite, but good luck in getting them to replace it under warranty. Batteries are almost always considered consumables.)
