Help Tab2 7.0 p3113 Sd problem

Charlym

Newbie
Yesterday, while using the tablet, I noticed an icon in the notification bar that said that the external sd card was bad with only one option, to reformat it.

I went into my files, and it was no longer there. I first tried to re-boot it, but no luck.

Took the card out, and put in a usb reader with the usb adapter, and the tab had no problem reading it.

Put the card back lnto it's slot, and once again it's telling me the cards bad:mad:

Took the card out of my other tablet, and it worked fine in the tab2.

Took the "bad" card, and put that into the other tablet, and that worked fine.

Finaly, one more time, put it back into tab2, no go. I called it a night.

This morning, I was going to try re-formatting it, but when l turned it on, everything was back to normal!

I think this one is for the books:confused:

Can anyone tell me what just happended?

What brand is the card?
Maybe consider backing up the card, just in case. Either the card or drive might be failing/dirty? Or just a one off glitch. Stuff happens.

The card is a PNY 16gb class 10 microsd .What do you mean by drive failing?

I thought that maybe the contacts on the card might be dirty, but that's not the case.

The tablet and card are about 3 weeks old,.

II think it was a os glitch , that worked itself out after being rebooted a couple of times, not the hardware.

I mean the card reader.

Unless it happens a lot, I wouldn't worry much. Probably just not seating right if they're both new. My phone does it sporadically when it boots up.

I think samsung has problem with class 10 cards. I have a sandisk class 10 32GB micro sd card and I had to just reboot the tablet. Just backup and reformat the card in windows, might fix the problem

I've been using a GSkill 32gb, class 10 for around 6 months w/o any issues. Granted, I rarely turn off the tablet anymore. I mostly use it to backup files from memory.

If that were the case, I think we'd hear more people with issues. I have a SanDisk class 10 32gb card, and have had no issues whatsoever.

Anyway, a class 10 is probably overkill for the tab2 isn't it? I did it just because. I thought class 10s were mostly advantageous for things like recording high quality video or rapid fire sequential stills, generally speaking.

Just a quick update!

My wife uses it the most, and has shut it down, charged it numerous times and the problem never returned.

I warned her not to go crazy with the Play store, but she didn't listen to me. She's into games, tries them and if she doesn't like a game, then uninstalls it..

Maybe one of the apps created the problem.

Thanks for the replies

I have a class 10 32GB card as well (SanDisk Ultra), and often as not my Galaxy Tab tells me there was a problem with the SD Card.

But if I go to Settings and Storage, I can mount it, anyway.

With that said, however, the contents of half the folders on the card have suddenly been compromised-- the folder name is changed, the first letter changed to mu (μ) and the contents of the folder is empty.

I will have to reformat the card and move all the data back to it... at least there is nothing unrecoverable (and it's easier to remove the card than it is my phone).

I performed 2 separate updates and both killed my sd cards. Both cards were Samsung 32GB Class 10.
One card I was able to recover but needed 3rd party software to do it. The other never recovered.
For the card I was able to use, every single time I'd restart my phone I'd get the notification about either no sd card or it was unmounted. If it wasn't one thing it was another. Sometimes I'd get that msg while my phone was sitting all by it's lonesome on my desk.
This lasted longer than a month until approx 2 weeks ago I suddenly no longer get that msg.

Hence the 3rd party software. Windows itself didn't/couldn't recognize the card was inserted but the program I used did.

It happened twice the other day. I think I may have found the cause.

When we first got the card, I copied a folder of mp-3's to the sd from her mp-3 player, and I think some of it got corrupted in the transfer, because when played on the tab they stuttered.

I let the tablet re-format the card, and and just copied a folder of pictures to it.

So far it hasn't reoccured. This morning I swapped cards from the 2 tablets for a couple of days to see if there are anymore glitches. Both cards are identical.

I have been blaming Sygic app for corrupting my SD cards (2 so far) but I see it is happening to others. Maybe its the SD reader in the tablet???

Its not consistent, I can go several months or just a few days. I have my SD cards backed up because I was re-formatting and reloading often.

I removed Sygic app and haven't had an issue since, but Sygic is a navigation app that resides entirely on an SD card. I think the constant reading during navigation may have been the issue.
