I am in the process of buying an Android tablet for my 5 yr old daughter and after much research,I have found out that there is stuff all optimized apps for the latest range of Android tablets. No wonder apple lead the way when it comes to tablets. How the hell are the Android tablet makers supposed to compete with apple when the market has nothing out there to make their tablets a worth while proposition. I really don't like apple but I have no choice but to buy an iPad because without decent apps,a tablet is worth less. Speaking of apps, I've been downloading apps to my Samsung note and am horrified about the permissions that these apps want. Why the hell does angry birds need to know when I call someone and where I am at that moment. I would rather pay a premium price and have an app do what it needs to do without grabbing information from me and using it anyway they want. Does the app market even check this shit out. So very disappointed.

Actually, the same permissions Angry Birds ask on Android are the same ones Apple granted to it. The only difference is that, Android allows the user to review the permissions themselves before downloading.
Why are they allowed to do this. It would make a great case for some company to start a site that only allowed apps that have been checked to make sure they are only asking for stuff they really use and charge premium prices for peace of mind.

"Most" apps only ask for permissions they "need", but yeah there seems plenty that ask for totally unwarranted stuff. Most I'm sure are for advertising (on free apps)... if they weren't there, I bet there'd be almost no free apps!

There is no disputing that the tablet app arena for android is in need of some developers...
And for this reason, Google has made developing for Android and publishing apps easier and more open.
As for permissions, well apple has a great track record for getting the users who would rather the details be 'out of sight, out of mind'. Got another one here didn't they?

The reason the game wants to know the phone state is to save your game and shut down when a call comes in.
Most devs are nice and will explain the needed permissions if you ask.
Droid tablets are new. And you want something yesterday. How long has the iPad been around? Long enough to be on iteration number 2.
