Tablet Battery / Charging question

I have a couple of questions around tablet batteries that are bugging me.

1) If a tablet is fully charged and still plugged into the power socket - is it running of the battery or the Electricity?
1a) Is this something a charger must manage?
2)Is it bad to keep it plugged in the whole time to conserve battery power?
3) If you take battery out of tablet - will it still power on?
4)Are tablet battery chargers standard across most makes?(2V/2000mah)

Any info will be appreciated.

thx

First two questions:

Tablets charge until full then run off the power adapter only until the battery drops towards a threshold designed to start charging again (usually 95%)

Question 2:

No more harmful than keeping a battery tender on a motorcycle

3:

Tablet batteries are non-removable

4:

No. They vary across devices. Higher end tablets have higher capacity batteries
