Help tablet not ready, please insert valid SIM card

Hi,
I have upgraded my XOOM from 3.2 to 4.0.4.
Likewise upgrading to 3.2 previously I have been asked to enter a SIM card (which I did while upgrading to 3.2, afterwards I was able to work with the XOON also only via WLAN - but getting a notification).
As I was now upgrading to 4.0.4 it was similar approach. It was asking me for a valid SIM, so I inserted my normal mobile SIM and the upgrade went through. After reboot there was NO way in getting me signed into my XOOM WITHOUT a SIM card. I tried various combinations (fligh modus, disabling various mobile settings) but without success at all.
I guess it must also be possible to work with XOON WITHOUT a SIM card.
Can someone help me?
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks.
Mike.

nope, I won it :) so I cant blame anyone else.
And no, I dont need the SIM for anything else, just for the inital sign in, before I need to enter the password to unlock the memory (XOOM is encrypted)

Oh... An encrypted tablet, first I've heard of.
*edit* maybe unlocking if will help. You have any experience with adb and rooting?

hm ... I have two "stops", one is entering the PIN, once that has passed I need to unlock the memory, which is working fine, no issue within that.
No exp with adb (whatever that is) and rooting.
Not sure if de-crypting will help ... need to check if that might be possible without crashing whole XOOM ....

if u meant "de-crypting", found no option to decrypt, seems it needs to be reset to default if one wants to decrypt, but I see that as last option as all settings will be gone afterwards ...
