Hey folks. I'm looking at different tablets, both for entertainment and work. I do video production for a living. I've decided that I'm going to (try) to find a model with full size USB, full size SD card, and HDMI (doesn't matter what size port on that one).
The tablet is going to be used as a teleprompter a lot. But it would also be nice to play my video files from my Panasonic GH2 (video DSLR camera) on it. Hence the need for full size SD card slot. I just tried playing an .MTS file from the camera on my Galaxy Nexus. It played in both MX Player and VLC beta. But it was very slow, the audio would go realtime and then pause while the video caught up every few seconds.
So I'm wondering if a Tegra 2 or Tegra 3 would be able to play the files. It's AVCHD format, packaged in an .MTS file, 1080p, about 24 mbps (I haven't hacked the camera yet for higher bitrate).
I was looking at the $350 price point, which was meeting my needs so far (USB for hard disk usage to view video files or get prompter scripts from a client; HDMI to show a presentation, teach a lecture, or watch Netflix at someone's house; 10 inches; ICS or at least upgradeable). But I think if I knew for sure that the higher end models $400+ could play video files directly from my camera, that I might go for it.
If anyone would like to experiment and download a video file from my camera that I send you, and see if your tablet model can play it smoothly-- that'd be pretty awesome! Thanks!

Mark my words, though, people are going to come across these threads for video production questions through Google or website search and find them very useful! lol.
