According to the specs I just looked up this is a 16:10 screen, which is what Samsung have been using since at least 2013 (e.g. my Note 10.1). I think they did try a squarer format inbetween in one or two ranges, but not for long.
Count yourself lucky they didn't make it 16:9. Narrower (or, if you use it landscape, wider) is generally favoured for media consumption (streaming video), while broader is better for documents, so I think this tells you what they think most buy use them for.
You can still buy 4:3 tablets, but not from Samsung. Apple started out with 4:3 and have never released anything else.
