Help Tap to top not working

I have the tap to top motion on and the tutorial responds to the motion but I can't get it to work otherwise. I have also tried factory resetting my phone.. anyone know what could be the problem ? I don't think it is a sensor problem because it works when I have the tutorial for that motion pulled up... it just won't with in any other apps
 
I find this feature to be very hit and miss, sometimes it takes a few goes to go to the top and it would have been easier just to scroll to the top
 
The help associated with it says contact list, email list and email messages. I just tried it with the contact list and it worked. Tap on the top of the phone a couple of times, don't just touch, give it a nice tap (don't break it though)

Yea you're right.. it doesn't work with the gmail app but it does work with the standard mail app. Also doesn't work with dolphin browser.
 
Sorry to bump an old thread, but is there a way to be able to tap the notification bar to jump to the top of the page ala iPhone?
