Help tapping, tapping = nothing

Nancy Peden

Lurker
I am sitting at my home next to my wifi modem and I can't get anything to happen. I was able to get two maps on. But have tapped and tapped and nada. I saw someone else had the same problem and she said she got as close as she could to the source and it worked. Does that mean go stand by my front door???

Going out of town Thursday. Sure would like to use this.

Welcome to AndroidForums Nancy.:)

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Is it navigation? Your thread title and post are a bit vague. We have a huge group of members willing to help, and they will even help someone as dumb as me.:p

Just slow down and let us know what you want to do and what steps you have taken.:)

i want to navigate from monterey california to vallejo. i thought i said that. i want a voice actived guide as i drive. is that clear enough? tapping i get nothing. the maps do not open. i got a very brief flash asking me if i wanted to go somewhere but it was brief and disappeared. i am all signed up now and quite close to home, on my porch. great wifi here. so what am i missing?

You've given more than enough now.:) Sound like you are new to smartphones, so let's work on your first need, getting from monterey to valleyo.;)

As far as follow up and continuing learning, remember that android will more than likely do what you want, you just need to figure out how to do it. We have 1 million+ members here that like helping each other, so you just need to ask what you want to accomplish and someone will try to help.:)

So, back to getting you up north to Valleyo. On you phone, click the Google Maps icon:

In the white box at the top of the screen, type in the address (or just valleyo, CA) you want to navigate to. The map will show a satelite image of the city with a red pin. Touch the pin. A blue and white overlay will appear. On the top right is a car icon. It is in a circle that rises above the top of the overlay. Tap that. It will come up with another dialog showing your location above the bar and your destination below the bar.

Below that is more options, which will let you choose routes that avoid tolls, highways, and ferries. Select what you would like or leave it blank if you aren't concerned. Once you are done, at the top right of the screen there are three vertical dots. Tap that and you can choose "Save offline map." This will let you navigate without using your cell data or needing a connection.

With the exception of searches, i find waze to be a far superior navigation app. Perhaps give it a try and see if the results are the same, this will help narrow it down between a hardware problem and an issue with the app

I usually just open the Google maps app, tap on the little microphone looking thing on the Google search bar and speak my intent. In this case "navigate to Vallejo California". If you have GPS enabled on the phone it should auto input your current location and then input Vallejo California as the target destination, and then it should start the trip for you including turn by turn directions which is standard issue.
