Task Killer Question

jscbet

Lurker
Hello group,
Is there an Android task killer that will prevent apps from running at all? I've used Advanced Task Killer and Optimize Toolbox, with no success.

Maybe that is why people root their phones...?

Thank you,

I moved this over to the Androin Lounge where you shoulg get better answers.:)

For the most part don't worry about memory in Android as it runs at near capacity to optimize performance and battery life. And definitely stay away from apps like advanced task killer as it will do more harm than good.

What device do you have? If the OS is Froyo or later, you DO NOT need a task killer.

Same answer for every task killer question. Uninstall and forget about it. Don't worry about apps running in the background and enjoy your phone. That's just the way Android works.

Just look at it this way:
Your goal for the week is wash your brain of the idea that having little RAM available is a bad thing. The more RAM available, the more Android will find ways to use it up which means your battery will be dead in hours. Instead, let it manage itself, so that you can spend more time playing Angry Birds or reading Droid Life.
All good now?

I fretted about memory use, and the fact that I never seemed to completely exit an app once I opened it until I shut down and rebooted . . . and that seemed a bit drastic. Using tasks managers led to a very sluggish machine. Got rid of them, and seem to be running good as new.I did install a cpu monitor "Watchdog lite" which showed one app using a bunch of cpu when not activly in use. Other apps were available to do the same job, so I got rid of it. All this I see here in this thread is good advice.

look into my eyes..
you are getting sleepy...

at the count of 3..
you will forget all worries about apps in background of your android device..

hi, welcome to AF
have a great weekend

I'll be the first person to agree and scream the loudest that you should not be using a task killer.

That said, what are you trying to stop from running and why?

Ditto all of the above responses, forget about task killers. and if for some odd reason a roque app gets "stuck" and starts eating battery, just reboot your phone and you'll be good to go.

Actually, you can still individually kill tasks that go rogue without rebooting the phone.

Go into Settings | Apps | All | [Misbehaving App] and choose force close. This will close the app but still within the framework of Android.
