Task killer: yes or no?

I just read something about how task killers are bad for your andriod. I just want thoughts/opinions on the topic of task killers. Should I uninstall my task killer? I'm confused by the whole thing.

yes unistall it, it is bad 4 ur android, the only app which is good for killing apps is android system info - offers alot of other things like battery percentage left, how much ram is being used, both internal,sd memory etc

Short answer:

No.

Medium answer:

Having one installed to kill the occasional rogue app that is misbehaving is ok. Having it set to auto-kill or frequently killing apps to "save memory" is bad.

I don't have the patience to type out the long answer, but just know that you are not helping your phone by killing apps.

Thanks. Removed this from my mum's Wildfire S, they had installed it in the shop...

It's amazing how uninformed phone carriers are about the phones they sell. Verizon was bundling ATK with it's phones for a while. And it's still one of the most popular free apps on the market. Really is a shame. :(

It depends on the authenticity of the software developer. There are many types of developers out there. Try to get your task killer app from someone reliable. Or better go to android market for more guidance on which task killer app is best for you.

It doesn't matter how authentic or reliable the developer is. If the app's purpose is to automatically kill applications, then it's not good for your phone.

Thank you so much guys. Luckily I came across this thread. I've been using App killers forever now on my Nexus S. I see many glitches/slowdowns and constantly kill apps using Advanced Task Killer. Just got rid of it and the phone feels refreshed.

EDIT: Are History Cleaners okay? I have an app called "History Eraser"
