Tasker for bluetooth keyboard

d13g087

Newbie
I use a keyboard for my tablet and when I turn it on my tablet automatically detects it and it works great and switches over to the ketboard. When I turn it off it switches back to the default keyboard which I absolutely hate on this tablet and I would like it to automatically switch back to the keyboard I had selected prior to the keyboard being activated. Can someone please do a very dumbed down version of how I can make this happen. I'm still getting to learn my way around tasker and am not confident in my ablilities to make this happen. Thanks a bunch

I used this once upon a time to switch between input methods depending on landscape/portrait orientation. It hasn't been updated in ages so I don't know if it still works, but it's probably worth a shot!

Not rooted :( I've been meaning to just haven't gotten around to it. Also seems like it isn't compatible anymore from reading the reviews. I just got a new keyboard for my tablet and now my new problem is that the tablet doesn't recognize that the bluetooth item I paired is a keyboard so whenever I go to type something the on screen keyboard pops up. I can escape that by hitting the back button and it works just fine. Just a little annoying

I'm afraid that you're going to need root for any third-party application to be able to control your Input Method selection. And you're right about that KeyboardSwap not working anymore - I just tried it out and it was all sorts of fail. Instead, Secure Settings should be able to do the job - but, again, you'll need root.

What device do you have? I'd be happy to get you pointed to a good "how to root" guide for it. :)

I have the galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition. I'm also running on a Mac which is why I haven't rooted yet because I'm not 100% sure it will work on a Mac since I've never heard of anyone doing it on one

The appropriate forum subsection is here: Note 10.1 2014 - All Things Root - Android Forums

Though it's a bit sparse at the moment. It looks like folks are having good luck using this root method; being on a Mac, you'll probably want to substitute Heimdall for ODIN (they both do essentially the same thing, but Heimdall is community-built and available for various platforms). If you run into issues, throw up a post in that All Things Root subforum I mentioned. :)

Good luck!
