tasker not active without unlocking the phone?

i have a tasker profile that toggles media play/pause when i plug in my headphones. very simple. on gingerbread it worked perfectly whether the phone was locked or not, the display on or off, etc. however, i just upgraded to ics and the profile doesn't detect the headphones being plugged in until the phone is unlocked. aside from the os, the only real difference now is that i'm not rooted, whereas i was with gingerbread, and i'm not sure how relevant that is. any ideas on how to get around this because it's driving me nuts? (droid razr)

Are you using the same device, or a different device that happens to have ICS? Are you sure that the profile isn't activating, or is it that the media play/pause action isn't working? It's possible that root may be required since, depending on the options selected, it may be trying to simulate a button press.

brand new device, actually. my last one got stolen so the first thing i did on the new stock one was the ota to ics. i'm not sure if it's the button press or the profile...any ideas on how i would find that out? i'll try rooting and see what happens. thanks for the reply.

Have the profile do something else that you can observe is working, like vibrate, play a sound, etc. You can also look at the run log (Menu > More > Run log) to see if the profile is activating.
