Tasker variable %SMSRN doesn't work

melluish

Lurker
I am trying to get Tasker to read text messages when my phone is connected to my car bluetooth device. Reasonable success so far, but when I use 'say %SMSRN' I get the phone number of the sender, not the name which is in my contacts.

I have only tried sending texts from one phone so far.

Is this a known problem? If so, is there a way round it?

From Tasker Manual:

Text From/Date/Subject/Time (monitored)
%SMSRF / %SMSRN / %SMSRB / %SMSRD / %MMSRS / %SMSRT
The sender address, name, body, date and time of the last text (SMS or MMS) received.
These variables will be empty until the first time a text is received after they have been referenced because Tasker does not monitor SMSs unless it's needed.
Sender name is set to sender address of no contact could be looked up. It's unavailable on Android versions prior to 2.0.

Is it possible the number displayed from the text is slightly different (or formatted differently) than the one in your contacts? I'm not sure how exact this needs to be.

I'd also suggest you peruse the Tasker user group for answers: site:groups.google.com %SMSRN - Google Search
