TB update rant and security flaw in TB

I am not surprised that the GB update was a failure the first time around. It seems that everything that revolves around the Thunderbolt from HTC is poor quality in general. One update after another is a failure. Everyone, or nearly everyone, in the root section of this forum new that VM was broken on the GB leaks, and HTC didn't know? They really must have their heads in the sand over there.

I'm really curious to see how their next generation of phones work out. I hope they are just pouring in all their efforts into those phones and the TB problems are because of that.

Also, anyone else read about the big security flaw in HTC phones? Thunderbolt, Aspire, EVO, etc. all have a major flaw where your any of your information can be accessed by your apps.

It's not just HTC with issues. Look at the Droid x after gb update, the galaxy s phones with gps basically not working. Can't just single out HTC for software issues. The whole info problem with sense roms is stupid, that should of never happened.

My GB update has my phone running better than ever.

All phones have security problems. You can choose not to use a smart phone, or deal with the uncertainity. I will say it's pretty disappointing when you see obvious flaws like the one reported in your link and the one on the Galaxy S II.

I have had PDA's and smart phones for the last 15 years. I disagree that to have a phone with additional capabilities I should just accept that it will have a blatant security risk, especially when it is specific to one manufacturer's implementation.
I am thankful that there are people out there that are checking these things, I would not know how to even start to find the HTC log software or exploit them. Nor would I have found out that Facebook was tracking the URL's i visit even after I log out of facebook.

Just on the AT&T version.

I agree with you. You shouldn't have to choose between technology and security, the two should have a nice relationship where they are built off of each other.

You must also remember google gets to know pretty much anything you do on your phone. Amazon will be tracking everything people do on their fire tablets and have been tracking kindle use since they came around. Yeah facebook tracks people as well. Part of being able to use services provided by the OS maker, OEM manufacturer, or service provider is giving into the EULA they have which may include tracking you.

However the companies whom implement these tracking features should need to make it secure and protected from unknown 3rd parties which HTC has not done, and IMO they should disclose the info they will be collecting and provide an opt-out function. Sadly as a society we have collectively given up privacy for services that we may or may not need.
