Temperature Calibration?

I have been using a couple of apps that measure the cpu temperature. I have taken this to be the local temperature, plus whatever heat the unit generates. However, the temperature reads lower than the local temperature sometimes! For example, overnight, it reads that the temperature in the house has dropped to 5C. Several independent measures show it as 15C at the lowest. Is there a method of calibrating this temperature sensor?

Calibration is done at the kernel level. You have no control over it, even if rooted. BTW, many devices do not even have CPU sensors. Are you sure you aren't seeing the battery temperature, which is usually lower?

You are quite right - it is battery temperature. However, that does not change the fact that the temperature is reading very low! During the night, it 'appears' to drop to 10C below room temperature. I am surprised that it could be out of calibration if it cannot be corrected.

10 degrees sounds a bit much, but it is normal for the battery temp to read lower. Batteries in these devices typically have a lot of surface area and act like a giant heatsink, so they cool quicker than other components. I know of no way to calibrate the battery sensor. However, the sensor is built into the battery, so maybe replacing the battery will give the result you are looking for. If nothing else, you'll have a spare for quick change-out lol! GL.

Being a heat sink is understandable, as it would keep the unit from heating up. However, it would not cause it to cool below room temperature. I think it must just be out of calibration - maybe I should try a new battery, as you suggested.
