How To tempered glass?

I was wondering, is this tempered glass on my Droid? If so, wouldn't that make the screen protector a bit redundant?

It's Gorilla Glass. It is extremely scratch resistant, but not impossible to scratch.

It's scratch resent not proof. My screen got scratched by my dog and her toe nail... not a big scratch but enough to piss me off.

If you throw a screen protector (Anti-Glare or Ghost Armor works best), it'll hide the scratch. I had one of those real thin scratches on my old iPhone screen that had the rainbow effect going on with white backgrounds, so I threw on a screen protector and never saw it again.
