Help Temporary way to use GooglePlay on Meep

Are you experiencing recent issues in opening GooglePlay on the Meep and downloading items?

This is due to GooglePlay's recent release of their version 4.0. Their new interface is being progressively pushed to all Android devices, and for those who have received this push, there will be an issue experienced when attempting to download GooglePlay apps directly from the MEEP! (by opening Google Play on the MEEP! from the Parental Controls).

This will be addressed for Meep users in our next OTA (2.1.1) which is expected to release in May.

In the meantime it is still possible to download Google Play apps from the web, by opening Google Play on a web browser and selecting to download directly to the Meep, signified by device OSGD. Many users already prefer this method, as it can be done 'remotely' and does not require the Meep in hand.

The web browser (the finally started working after changing the settings in the parent portal over 2 hours ago) won't allow me to access the URL play.google.com . It also is not showing up in my Play Store when I connect on my regular PC. Even after going to Google and logging into my account on the Meep. I still get a blocked message.

The exact message is:
"This website has been blocked! You are not allowed to use this word in the Web browser. Please try something else!"

Hi Bryan! Here's the deal with GooglePlay and the Meep... you actually can't install GooglePlay on the Meep itself, nor can you go to Google Play's website from the Meep- that has been blocked by our development team. The way it's intended is for Google Play to need to be opened from the parent portal website- this is so that a parent can be in control of Google Play downloads and potential in-app purchases. Children can find recommended GooglePlay items in the Meep Store and if they select them, the parent receives a notification in the portal so they can approve the download and then will perform the download from the portal.

Normally, you would go to our Meep Together parent portal site, go to Settings, and click where it says 'Open Google Play on the Meep'. Right now, this function is not working for many people (as was detailed in our original message), but this will be fixed in our 2.1.1 update. In the meanwhile, and actually it's always available as an option which some prefer, if you have setup the GooglePlay account on the Meep through the portal by clicking on 'Open Google Play on the Meep', you can go to Google Play's website on a Mac or PC, log in with the Meep's Gmail account (make sure to set up a new one for the Meep), and then download directly by selecting the Meep (OSGD) as the device. If you didn't get to set up Google Play through the portal yet for the Meep, then I'm sorry but this won't work for you and there's nothing we can do prior to 2.1.1. If you did set it all up on the Meep through the portal and have a Meep-dedicated Gmail address that you are logging in by, and still don't see the Meep as a device option.. .then let me know.

Right now, we are about a week from 2.1.1, so a fix is really coming up very soon. If you'd like further assistance, you can certainly send me a private message, though I'll be honest that I don't always check in here daily. You can also reach us on Facebook where we provide nearly around the clock assistance... just search for Meep Tablet US. -Jill

2.1.2 is here and the GooglePlay downloading issue has been resolved through that update. Please see our post about updating to 2.1.2 if you need instructions on how to do that.
