Help Testing 4G on Indulge

KaneRobot

Newbie
At this point I'm firmly convinced the 4G on mine just flat out doesn't work - ie, something with the hardware is bad. I've never seen it turn on once. Ever. I've driven to areas where it should be on, and nothing. Just sticks at 1x or 3G.

I'm backing up stuff now in prep for a factory reset as a last ditch effort before I begin the futile battle with Metro to get a replacement (I've had the phone for 8 months so not f'ing likely...I guess if I'm lucky I'll pay the deductible and get an Attain or Connect). I do have the insurance but at this point I'd just assume put the money towards a less problematic phone.

My question is - is there a way to be able to test if the 4G radio actually functions? I'm aware of the LTE on/off thing via AnyCut, but I guess I mean more of a hardware test. I'm just curious if my phone was defective from day one or if maybe there's something I can try to do to fix it.

My phone is not (nor has it ever been) rooted, for what it's worth. I'm on R910.

Thanks.

Knew I forgot something. Nope, it shows up (R910.ED15), and under Status/Support System I see the numbers that (I assume) should be there as well.

I should also add I sometimes get the total data loss problem (often when having wifi on for a long time) but after going through this forum I see that is not exactly a rare or unique problem. Right now I'm just more concerned with the 4G issue.

Anyone know if there is something in that LTE Functionality Anycut menu that would let me test the hardware?

EDIT - Also my PRL is up to date (29).

if your rooted with rom you can add the LTE test menu to your home screen it can turn on and off and also speednet can tell you the speed the bad news is a moved to tmo few weeks and yea metro 4gLTE is not even a match to their 3g ive thought 4g had to be a speed to be called 4g on metro high i get 1-2mb on tmo 3g unl get 7-10mb ive turnned on 4g once just to check its about 18-21mb

Is this different than having the LTE Functionalty Test menu via Anycut? I already have that shortcut on my non-rooted phone.

Can't really do anything with speedtest yet since my 4G doesn't work in the first place. Thanks though.

it might be the same just can turn on and off right make sure your in the right mode its i forget **lteetl## or you might not get 4g i sometime was in 4g area and only got some 1x

Thanks for the continued responses...took it to a nearby Metro store and apparently there was an update I didn't get which may fix my problem. In addition I was told that when my phone was initially programmed something was done incorrectly. I have my doubts (especially about the second thing) but it should be pushed to me tomorrow by day's end so we'll see.

They probably forgot to turn on your 4G radios. They did that to mine, and fixed it the same day. It's a 3 minute fix.
Open the phone dialer application (it has to be the factory dialer)
Dial **583385## (a.k.a. **LTEETL##)
A hidden menu with three big buttons will come up.
Select Enable Global Mode.
Restart the phone, and you should have 4G.

Thanks, that was actually the last thing I tried...turns out that whatever was wrong, they couldn't fix it, so they gave me a new one. Thought I was over the 1-year warranty but I was actually safe with a few weeks to go.

I didn't make note of my previous info before I got rid of it but on the new phone I know that the Firmware, baseband numbers, and build number are all different (Firmware 2.2.2, CDMA/LTE EG06/EF23, build number EG05)

At least my phone works now. I no longer experience the data loss problem either.

Thanks for the suggestions.

ur better off paying the fee and getting a attain, as tiede will tell u im a old indulge user and one of the first ones on this subforum, i learned alot android since it was my first android phone but the phone lacks alot more than battery power it's 4g is epic as well. Now i have the esteem and im satisfied.
