Testing a beta app

Just curious how much (if any at all) risk there is to my phone by testing out a beta app. I've been asked if I want to try it out, and I really do, but than I got to thinking that there may be a risk to my phone...maybe? As far as I know, the app is very stable on iphone.

I've beta tested a lot of software and on occasion it has taken out the device....

Same risks as with any piece of software.

A malicious developer could cause you to have to reset your phone to factory settings and reload everything. THey could steal any info on the phone, or change your settings. A careless one could just cause things to stop working until you uninstall their app. It all depends on what privs the application requests at installation time, and what the developer does with them.

This is as true for non-beta software as for beta software. It is why Apple maintains tight control of their app store.

I'm not too woried about the dev trying to be malicious, but I guess if he/she is careless it could be a problem. I think I might do it, I've been wanting this app to port over to android.
