Tether Samsung galaxy tab to htc desire

i have a dilemma: I want to tether my HTC Desire to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7' but its looking impossible. The Tab is running gingerbread 2.3.5 and is Verizon. I'm able to tether my phone to my computer via usb without problems (using PDAnet) but nothing works between the phone and the tab. Is there any way i can tether these two without rooting my tab? thanks!

Try via Bluetooth. I use Foxfi on the phone and pdanet on the tablet.
I am rooted.

I'm also running Gingerbread (on a Sprint HTC EVO), and I can confirm that the Foxfi-PdaNet Tablet combo works using an unrooted phone as well.
