Help Tethering 4G LG Motion in 3G or other network (Metropcs is the Provider)

Warbonnet

Newbie
Hello, I recently purchased an LG Motion from Metropcs and have no problems tethering it in a 4G reception area however most of my time is spent working in areas that do not have this capability. Are there any apps out there that will allow me to tether it anywhere I have an internet connection available via my phone?

Use Wireless Tether or Barnacle after you ROOT YOUR PHONE!
Root it and then download and try! It works perfect

+1 on Barnacle

Rooting is EASY

Look at post #45 in that thread. There are to files to download. The zip file goes on your computer, the .apk file goes on your phone.

One thing they don't stress enough is to prep the phone by making sure USB debugging is enabled. The rest is pretty straight forward... except... the part about the command prompt. You don't need to do that, just open the folder with the zip file in it, xtract the files in the zip file, and run the one called root.bat. That easy.

Thanks for the info I was worried I wouldn't be able to do it. I very rarely spend time in 4G areas and I always need an internet connection for my laptop so tethering to me is a must-have.

I do that too... and it does a tablet on occasion... and on occasion (ahem), an entire network... which will be much faster with 4G

if you have firefox just switch your user agent. you dont need a 3rd party tethering app and you dont need root.

i accidentally was on 1x one time while i was tethering and i got blocked.

I got the tether working but it only works for a handful of websites like facebook and youtube and such anyone else having this problem? any solutions?

I had Barnacle feeding the computer I'm using to type this. No restrictions, other than speed - at the GF's house, I can't get 4G inside... only EV and even thats spotty. Note: was great until she pw'd me into putting up window film. She wanted super reflective (high metallic content) and that killed the phone's inside!

Rooting was easy and worked the first time but cant get usb or wifi tether to work. Only seems to work occasionally with google sites. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

pda net... simple, clean, has options for wifi, bluetooth, and usb tether. only drawback is u have to pay for the full version to go on secured websites. but thats what keygens are for ;]
