Help Tethering Causing PC Issues

I am getting odd behaviour when i'm tethered.

Web pages load fine but when I interact they can freeze for some minutes, often with several pop-ups of error reports.
The pointer 'phases' across the screen if I use the mouse, then is followed by a momentary crash.
The entire page vanishes & reappears a few times, then settles.
My bookmarks, Home, Back & other buttons become inactive, followed by a freeze for a few minutes.

I get great speed from the tethered One X but some of my simpler forum stuff..

Any tweaks I can try?

This is a wired connection btw, but wireless is about the same.

Bumpity bump.

PS the issue is worse in Chrome than FF.

I have Aspire 5553. Maybe there's software to 'smooth' the interaction?
