Tethering cost?

Ok, I don't know the first thing about tethering. My phone is rooted, and I would like to use it as a tether for my upcoming road trip. If I do, will I be hit with any charges?

Also, will I be able to tether with my Mac?
 
No, it uses the same internet service as your phone does, and should work with a mac.
