Tethering drops out

I have a Galaxy II with Android 4.0.3. When running wifi tethering the tethering regularly drops out. The symbol is there but devices connected to it can't access the internet. Mostly the phone has to be restarted to get tethering working again. I've looked for upgrades but it seems there aren't any. Anyone got any thoughts on the problem or resolution?

I've had the same experience but it depends on where I am. Probably has to do with signal issues. For example this happens to me in a certain place in the library or a certain spot in my classroom, or certain times in my apartment, but always consistent. For example it doesn't happen to me between 1am and 9am in the apartment, but may happen anytime outside that time frame. May have something to do with network traffic. At times, I just have to wait it out or reset the connection by switching from WCDMA only to automatic back to WCDMA only.
