Tethering is enabled with latest update

...maybe I am a little late on this subject but here it goes. Is everyone aware that tethering is enabled as a stock feature in the latest update?

Go to SETTINGS|WIRELESS and NETWORKS| check box for bluetooth(turn it on), and then if you go to the device you paired to, you will see a wrench icon; click it and you will then see a area called PROFILES, and under there is TETHERING, click on that and you will tether between your tab and whatever device you have paired (my Motorola PHOTON in this case).

HTH

FYI...this is on a wifi only model

There are a few tethering apps out for android phones. Does this mean that if i got an app such as easy tether, I could tether from my infuse to the galaxy tab with Bluetooth?

No tethering app is needed. It is now included. At least it is with the wifi only version.

I've always been able to pair and share internet with my DroidX, no additional software or hacks needed. The DX was one of the only phones that this core feature worked with on the GT10.1.

What I meant was that I'd have to get the tethering app for my infuse to smartphone so that it would tether with the galaxy tab. Would that work?

Yup, successfully tethered my Tab to my Droid X via Bluetooth. Worked perfectly and was faster than expected.

You've always been able to do that. It has nothing to do with the update. I'm not saying that you claimed it was since the update,....I'm just saying.

I was unaware of that feature until researching tethering this past weekend. I originally thought it was due to Touchwiz.... swore I read that somewhere. But it works, and that's all that matters so I'm happy. Thanks for the clarification.

I think this only worked on certain phone models before the update (Droid X being one of them).

Doesn't work with HTC EVO or Samsung Vibrant.

Yes, I plead ignorance. Up until last Monday I working with my hTc EVO, I have since purchased the Motorola PHOTON and now the wrench is visible. Sorry for the confusion (more on my part than anyone else's).

I have my SGT 10.1 working with my Droid 2 Global, worked before and of course after the upgrade, beautifully. Just on a sidenote: I have 2 coworkers trying to get Bluetooth tethering to work between their iPad and iPhone.....no luck at all, no matter what. Told them: Android guys :p ..... LOL

no tethering under options on my tab or phone

Any ideas for transform tethering?

It's funny because you posted in my thread where I explained how to do this on the Motorola X. So you are saying that this does, in fact, work on the Photon as well? If so, I need to update the other thread to reflect that.

Yes it does work. At the time of my posting in your thread I had the EVO and I said that PDANet worked fine for me. I have since moved to the PHOTON and the tethering is enabled via the tablet as you described.

That is awesome scanman! I may have to consider going back to Motorola when they release their 4G phone.

I have a Samsung Captivate rooted running the Paragon ROM and my SGT 10.1 is running stock vanilla Honeycomb. I just click Mobile AP under Wi-Fi options on my phone and find my phone on my Tabs Wi-Fi and Tethering works great.
