Help Tethering issue

I have both a Galaxy sII and galaxy sIII. For both I am with T Mobile (UK) on their full monty plan - each are inclusive of unlimited tethering.

Tethering on the gs2 works as expected, I.e. I can still browse internet, use twitter etc on the phone while streaming video on a laptop.

However, the gs3 seems to disable mobile data for phone use when in tether mode. For info, both handsets are on stock JB 4.1.2

Is this a known issue? If so (or otherwise) would anyone be able to assist with possible solutions? I haven't come across this elsewhere.

Many thanks

Im on a sim-free (unbranded) s3 with a 3 sim and ive never had problems with tethering (while still browsing on the phone) bro. Think ive had a giffgaff(o2) sim in it and it was fine.
Is your s3 t-mo branded (has t-mo apps on it, boot screen etc)? maybe theyve tweaked the firmware to disable it and you have to ring em to enable it?

Thanks for coming back.

I did have this issue on branded firmware, and thought that may be the issue. So I flashed with stock 4.1.2 today and no joy!

Hmm no idea then man. What happens when u try to browse on the phone while somethings tethered to it? Does it try to load pages and time out or does it give you some kinda error msg?

I was with T mobile in a previous contract but moved back to 3 on the one plan as T mobile stopped allowing tethering with the full monty. The following is from the T&C's, Our Full Monty plans will give you unlimited use of our internet on your phone service when you're in the UK. This means you can use as many MB/GB as you like and no fair use policy will apply. Please note, internet on your phone excludes using your phone as a modem (tethering) and network traffic controls apply. You could try PDAnet from playstore that seems to suggest allowing you to tether using your data plan. There is a free trial that gives limited access but may be worth trying to see if this works. Good luck.

Tethering is actually included in both of my plans. I confirmed this at time the contracts were taken out.

However, in the GS3 there seems to be something limiting this.

Using the info provided here, I downloaded one of the wifi tether apps, rootes the device, now it works like a charm.
