Help tethering manager has stopped unexpectedly

jay71byrd

Lurker
I have updated my phone to 2.3.5 via Kies and now every time that i attach/remove my power usb cable, i get the following error message twice:

"The application TetheringManager (process com.tecace.tethering manager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

This message hangs up the fon. I click ok, it comes up again, i click ok. Once that ridiculous process has completed, everything is fine. The USB works, charging works, so its more of a nuisance than anything.

I have tried other forum comments about tethering issues: process involving Kies and home buttons, checking settings, etc.... its all correct. I absolutely refuse to do a factory reset to fix anything when the update should have taken care of every issue. I mean, the manufacturer/maker/carrier tests these updates before they are deployed, right?

Anyone find a fix for this issue? Thanks

Ok, i think i might have stumbled upon a possible fix - at least its working for me so far.
First - plug in your usb cable to your pc & fon
Go into the settings>wireless and network>tethering and portable hotspot
click on USB tethering (this will start the service) and u will see a blue icon appear
now take the cable out of the fon

The tethering service icon will disappear and the tethering service will stop. I have been messing with my phone for 30 minutes and trying to get that tethering message to come up again and it hasnt. I have not rebooted the fon to test whether this fix is a resolved solution or its a quick fix. Let me know if it works for you.

This is another reason I can NOT wait for my two years to be up to shed this POS Android Galaxy S. I'll be going Apple, and I tell my friends, acquaintances, and even strangers, who ask about it, to avoid it like the plague. Some things it does very well, but in other areas it is a huge FAIL.

I laugh when I drop it, and am disappointed it still works. Just...a...few...more...months

thank you it solved my problem.

Love Android and my Samsung Captivate, can't wait till my 2 years are over so I can get the new model, beats the shit out of an iphone any day!

This fixed worked till I rebooted my phone then I had the same problems again with the tethering manager crashing. I don't ever tether so to bad I can't just uninstall or permanently disable it.

I ended up doing what geeve420 suggested on this thread. I haven't gotten the force close message since.

Mine did the same thing, I did a factory reset: Settings -> Privacy -> Factory data reset. Then just set it all back up the way I wanted it. Not sure what caused it, but I haven't seen the pop up since.

Geeve

Edit: I may as well say this, if you do a factory reset, you will lose all your info.

Sounded plausible so I tried it on my Captivate. When the blue icon appeaered, I pulled the cable out of the phone. When I backed out of that menu, boom, got the tethering error immediately.

Please help.. it's very annoying. I am getting same tethering service stopped message whenever I plug in/out from charger.

Also in addition my captive is getting restarted automatically without any reason. It is happening twice or thrice in a week. :(

I tried a couple of the suggestions offered but each time I rebooted I received the same the tethering service message as mentioned above. My phone also started turning itself off and wouldn't turn back on without removing the battery and restarting from that point. I finally gave in and reset the whole thing. Since I sync with my gmail account I got all of my contacts back and that was all I was really worried about. I am a little nervous about d/l the pics etc. from my computer because I don't really want to do any tethering I can live without.

I had the same issue after Gingerbread.
A factory reset, directed by Samsung technician worked for me.
Backup first.. I didnt and lost all my notes & text threads& other little things that I didn't think of transferring to the SD card in advance.
Phone works perfectly again

The same here. I have 5 months left on the contract. After that I will get iPhone and will forget this Samsung & Android nightmare . During last 19 months I spent days and weeks searching the Internet including this site trying to find fixes for numerous issues with my phone.

Although you may by now have found an answer for this, I had the same problem (I still may have it). But I found that by using a different USB cable I was able to connect to my PC without the error message! As it turns out, my cable was no good. I was able to charge my phone (AT&T Captivate) but was not able to connect to my PC and got the error message.

The application TetheringManager (process com.tecace.tethering manager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Same damn problem here. Phone now resets itself sometimes. Captivate Glide is getting 4.0 (Android update, Ice Cream Sandwich) Will Captivate (AT&T) non-glide be getting it soon? Will that fix the problem?
