Tethering on Maxx HD

I use my Thunderbolt to tether as my only source of internet at home as I live in a rural area. I do have the unlimited hotspots plan with verizon, but find the stock hotspots app to be unreliable.

Can someone tell me what the story is with tethering on the Maxx HD as this is one of the most important features of a phone for me. Can I use fox first with this phone or is it incompatible?

Or, if I root, will the wifi tethering app work? What about Open Garden? Thanks for any replies here.

I have read that Foxfi with the addt'l addon is the only tethering option working as of now for the Razr HD/Razr Maxx HD.

My phone came with tethering and it works flawlessly.
Not sure what all this talk is about 3Rd party apps

Some paid full retail or were otherwise able to keep their unlimited data plan which doesn't allow the stock tethering feature to work.

Would rooting the phone make a difference? Add in allowing open garden or wifi tethering to work.

From xda forums, the only one working as of now is Foxfi whether rooted or not. I am sure that will change in the future once bootstrap is finished and cwm is an option allowing custom ROMs.

USB Tethering works just fine here. Can't remember if you need root or not.

I'd rather tether if I'm using a single computer.

If you buy the phone off contract, thus keeping your unlimited data, the VZ tethering app will not work without the additional tethering service that you pay for per month.

If you buy the phone on contract, and thus lose your unlimited data, VZ unlocks the tether app for you.

All the default app is doing is a simple eligibility check. This can actually be disabled by editing the database, if you have root on your phone.

um, just plug in and tether thru usb. dont need any extra plans. motorola only.

at least I have no problems

Let me clarify...

Aftermarket usb tethering. Clear?

edit: on contract, the plans are still there, be nice to your local VZW employee :) :)
