Root tethering terrible slooooooooow

first off lil background on this phone. it is rooted and does have "leaked" froyo installed. now even before root and upgrade to froyo wireless and usb tethering was terrible and it is stil just as terible afterwards. it may work fine for a few minutes then it will suddenly just go super slow or even not work at all. anyone else had this problem? and ideas? thanks.

Your data connection in your area is the likely culprit. The only places I've had issues with my tether is in spots where the data connection sucks.
