hi, I am a mac user for computer and tablet but use android for cell phone, I tether my rooted thunderbolt with wifi tether jus fine with no problems but will be upgrading to the s3 when it ships,

can anyone verify if they are able to tether the s3 to their mac or ipad using foxfi?

thanks!

I tether my s3 to my iPad all the time with no issues. Nice and easy.

I did download a 1x1 widget for my home screen. One click and tethering starts :D

Yep, can easily tether to an ipad2, iphone 4, and ipod. There is a nice additional feature on the S3 that will remember specific devices you set. I use an NFC tag, so when i get in my car tethering hotspot auto starts and my kids always have internet on the go.

I keep seein people say they are tethering with android phones free of charge on Verizon and AT&T. How are they no getting caught without using Verizons/AT&T's official hotspot features? I know with iPhones the network can detect you are on an iPhone and will automatically switch you to one of the hotspot plans when they do catch you. There at a few cysdia jailbroken apps that supposedly get around it though.

So my question would be...when I get my s3, can I tether my unlimited data without signing up for Verizon's hotspot plan? If so what do I need to be this going :D

Depends on the plan you have. If you're on tiered or unlimited on the s3, you won't have free tether. Verizons new shared data plans allow free tethering now for upto 10 devices.

The real question is if you're rooted, does verizon still tag thier data that's being sent to the towers like on my old droid x? How exactly do you tether for free being rooted, is there even a way?

Working fine to my ipad with FoxFi. Not a single problem yet.

I tethered on both the Droid X and S3 unrooted without being called out by Verizon...at least so far.

Yeah, me too. Works fine with the Wi-Fi Tether from Google Groups....

Remember when on the Droid X they managed to redirect to a Verizon page once you started doing it? Then we found a way around that too I think. I know it was working still three weeks ago, I tethered an iPod Touch to my DX on the highway so I could download an app...lol. No, wasn't the one driving, don't worry!

I actually usually just use PDANet for wired tethering unless multiple people need to get on, and that's working fine too. Then you can just keep the phone from draining with the laptop battery and don't need an outlet. Handy for the car.
