Help Tethering with no root required

tiede

Android Expert
Has anyone tried this?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.foxfi
From the description:
Enables WiFi Hotspot on your Android phone without a Hotspot plan from your carrier. No rooting required! Just install and turn it on. Currently works on most Samsung phones, Motorola Razr/Bionic, LG Optimus/Vortex/Ally, ZTE N762, HuaWei Comet. Does NOT work on HTC phones or older Motorola phones.
My phone is rooted right now, so I wonder if someone not rooted could try it out? (of course, I could also deny any su request to test, but I wanna make sure it works from a virgin environment, since my other tethering apps modify some files on the phone.)
Or should I foresee a return to stock and test of this in my foreseeable future?

:O no one told me i saw the tag at top but when i clicked it it took me to the main page of androidforums but anyways YAY!!!!!

you must change the tether NAT settings from modem@metropcs.com to aaai@metropcs.com
The settings can be found in the M.IP tab in QPST
I believe there's a thread addressing this issue somewhere here, i just can't dig it up at the moment.

Certainly.
It was loading all blank pages, then I changed the nai to aaai, and it's worked like a charm since!

WIFI Tether with any browser!!!

Go into QPST.

Go to the M.IP tab and highlight Profile 0.
Click EDIT.
Copy the info in the NAI line and paste it into the Tethered NAI line.
(or just change @modem.mymetropcs.com to @aaai.mymetropcs.com)
Click OK
Click Write To Phone to write it back to your phone.
Phone will reboot.

i have no idea what I'm doing.

see told u it was in one of the tethering bypass threads lol my only question is if i remember correctly some1 said that the pages loaded but slowly. if u can confirm it works perfectly fast im gonna do this lol

Oh it's fast.
Seeing 4+mbps down here consistently using speedtest.net
well since ive i dont have an indulge anymore i tried it with my esteem but the settings are not the same instead of aaai i have aaal so i messed with it a lil i changed them both to aaai and rebooted my phone and didnt work i changed it back to aaal on both boxes and still didnt work so im stumped for now. but perhaps i should leave top box alone on aaal and change the bottom to aaai. could work ill have to try it later.
