Help tethering

Can anybody confirm that the G1 can be tethered to a laptop for 3g internet access? Thanks!:D

At the present time, no, it cannot. But I expect this will get fixed rather quickly, as it seems to be the #1 request I see on any android discussion board, anywhere.

Here what is strange, if you contact T-mobile and talk to customer service, they will tell you that you can tether the phone. I called 2x now and asked about it SPECIFICALLY! The customer service lady put me on hold and then told me, yes, it does tether. Another time the lady said she was looking at a 'services offered and supported' sheet that she had for the G1 and told me that the phone does tether.

Now we are told it does not, but trust me, call T-mobile and act like you have not a clue and they will tell you that it does....what gives?

Documentation states that tethering is not supported at this time. It's a software limitation perhaps, but considering they would likely have to build the driver support (on the phone side) in for USB it may not be likely. Bluetooth is a possibility since AFAIK bluetooth profiles are purely on the software side.

The website has everything, except an explanation what it actually is and does.
Uhh... Seriously? No, seriously...

It shares your EDGE/3G data via wifi so you can connect to your phone and use it as a "modem" to gain access to the Internet.

But, in all actuality, it DOES say EXACTLY what it WMWifiRouter is for: WMWifiRouter instantly turns your wifi enabled smartphone* into a wireless internet hotspot. Now you can use your laptop and any other device with wifi to get online and surf, email, instant message, and anything else you normally use the internet for!

Well, Ok, it is there. My fault. Some how when I just opened the page I couldn't figure out where to press to see the description. Well... it's also debatable, how obvious the conceptions "wifi-router" or even "hot-spot" are and if it can be explained more clear how the program works :) Well... may be not :)

Thanks for putting together that guide! I'll check it out when I get home.

Looks like a lot of steps, I wonder if there are ways to automate a lot of that.
