Tethering

I think I understand the basic concept but am having trouble setting it up. I don't travel a lot but when I do it would be good to use my tablet for internet access through by mobile phone. Do I have to download an app for this, or is it built in and I just can't find the settings. Tried reading some tutorials but they are somewhat confusing.
My tab is a samsung galaxy 10.1 and the phone is samsung galaxy infuse S3 Thanks .....T

You should be able to do it without downloading any apps, as tethering should be built into the Android OS.

On your Phone, Touch Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot.
Check Portable Wi-Fi hotspot

When Portable Wi-Fi hotspot is checked, you can change its network name or secure it.

On your Tablet, you would connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot from your phone just like you would any other Wi-Fi network.

Uncheck the Portable Wi-Fi box to stop sharing (tethering) from your phone.

what country?
what carrier? does the plan you are on.. does it charge for tethering?
