So I have a sony xperia and my friend has a iphone. I get all her texts but they are often missing the end of the text if they are a longer text.

That's because your phone uses the industry standard, SMS, for texting. Hers uses an Apple invention called iMessage. iMessage doesn't do real SMS, so they often don't work well with each other. It's a known problem that Apple refuses to address (or even acknowledge - their viewpoint is that if the rest of the world licensed iMessage from them there wouldn't be any problem.)
