Text message app (wifi)

Hello, I been looking and looking with no luck to find a text message app that will allow me to text via wifi.... I am on android 1.5 and it seems that no one wants to give the people with older version phones any apps. I find many free texting apps for stuff higher then 1.5

So does anyone know of a app that I can text for free using wifi? or even one that you can buy cheap credits for?

Thanks!

Wow, 1.5 was the very first release on Android. Only .6% of Android phones are still using it. If you can upgrade to at least 1.6, then you could use Google Voice which the best program for free Wifi texting IMHO.

Yes android 1.5 is very old. I have the only android phone I know off that can use 2 way and on the IDEN network (Nextel)

Also when I got the phone I was told by a android guy it would get updated. It was just a BS story so that I would by the phone. When your on the IDEN (low end no contract people) they always get the worst things. Android dont care about us. We are nothing to them now go buy there new phone and everything is good they would be best friends with you.

Sorry about that little story, its just I had a really bad time with Motorola... but I really do love android OS.

Anyway.. do you know of any other ways? :/

Have you tried side-loading Google Voice to see if it will work with Android 1.5? They say you need 1.6, but most of it might work fine under 1.5.

its not android or googles fault
its your service providers fault for not pushing out an OVA update for it
actually you can blame the phone manufacturer for that as well
your right though
they dont care about the pay as you go customers
most of them dont even keep their phone going constantly
so there is a high change rate on them vs the contracted people
and they look at the sales of each modle and see how many they have deployed on their network
(the same way that you can see you PC on you wifi network)
(each smart phone has its own MAC address (media access control), which im sure they can sort and filter to see what OS it belongs to)
then they decide if they want to invest the added cost of creating the update for the model of phone
each one can have different processors, and ram, ect ect
so its not just hike a leg and let er rip and one falls out
its more complicated then that
